The Five Stages of the Emotional Cycle of Change

The B-Unit’s Five Stages of the Emotional Cycle of Change Curriculum is designed to help returning citizens understand and navigate the emotional and psychological challenges that often accompany the reentry journey. The curriculum guides participants through five key stages—Uninformed Optimism, Informed Pessimism, Valley of Despair, Informed Optimism, and Success and Fulfillment—helping them recognize that change is a process that includes both progress and setbacks. Through facilitated discussions, reflective exercises, mentorship, and practical life applications, participants learn how to manage frustration, stay motivated, and build resilience during difficult moments.

Our Curriculum

Time Management & Time Allocation

The B-Unit’s Time Management and Time Allocation Curriculum teaches returning citizens how to use their time intentionally as a key strategy for successful reentry and long-term stability. This curriculum helps participants understand the value of time, prioritize responsibilities, and develop practical tools for scheduling, goal-setting, and effective daily routines. By helping returning citizens allocate their time toward employment, education, personal growth, and family engagement, the B-Unit empowers participants to build productive habits that lower the risk of recidivism and support lasting success in their communities.

Financial Management & Planning

The B-Unit’s 12-Week Financial Management and Planning Curriculum is a comprehensive program that teaches participants the fundamentals of budgeting, saving, credit building, debt management, banking, and financial goal setting. Over 12 weeks, participants learn to create realistic spending plans, understand the importance of credit, open and manage bank accounts, and develop strategies to reduce debt while building savings. By strengthening financial literacy and empowering participants to make informed financial decisions, the B-Unit helps returning citizens build a foundation for economic security and reduce the risk of recidivism.
