The Comforting Words Project
The B-Unit Comforting Words Project is a restorative justice–focused pen pal initiative that provides emotional support, encouragement, and human connection to men who are currently incarcerated. Through intentional, affirming letter writing, community members offer words of comfort and hope to individuals navigating isolation, trauma, and the daily challenges of incarceration. The program centers dignity, empathy, and accountability, using written communication as a tool to foster trust, healing, and meaningful relationships across the walls of confinement.
Job and Resource Referrals
The B-Unit Job Readiness Referral Program supports returning citizens as they transition from incarceration to meaningful employment by connecting them to trusted job readiness programs and workforce partners. Through personalized referrals, mentoring, and life coaching, the B-Unit helps participants build essential job skills, develop confidence, and navigate barriers to employment. The program also provides hands-on assistance with job placement, resume development, interview preparation, and workplace readiness, while offering consistent encouragement and accountability. Grounded in restoration, dignity, and second chances, the program strengthens pathways to economic stability, successful reentry, and long-term self-sufficiency.
Transitional Housing
The B-Unit Transitional Housing Initiative provides safe, stable, and dignified housing for unhoused returning citizens as they transition back into the community. The program offers individual private rooms within shared living units, creating a supportive environment that balances personal space with communal accountability and connection. Participants receive up to 18 months of transitional housing paired with comprehensive program services, including case management, life skills development, employment support, and reentry planning. Rooted in restoration and long-term stability, the initiative is designed to reduce homelessness and recidivism while supporting participants in building sustainable pathways toward independence, self-sufficiency, and successful reintegration.
